The White Shirt

The WhitThe White Shirte shirt, constructed out of rich champagne colored satin duchesse adorned with gold-painted wooden buttonry makes, to this point, my most elaborate design, thriving in elegant flow and exuberant organic shapes, while maintaining a strong duality of both form repetition and linear direction.

Composed around a solid tailored base; emerging in creases flowing from reinforced shoulder panels, concluding in two forward curving hemlines adjoined in the cuspated central box-placket; it is crowned by complementary collars whose respective Italian and French points fall flawlessly on the pleads of the vigorous dual-layered jabot emerging from the single collar button.

The distinct center oriented waistline naps making the shirt base look more like a piece of armor than a barokish garment, weren’t it competing with the enormous fully pleated elongated sleeves ,overlapping their own continuation in firm underarm cuffs, flourished with sets of peaked pleaded ruffles; whilst inhibited from falling to their full opened width by bow-tied ribbons bounding the sleeves.

At 95% of its completion, having undertaken numerous endeavors managing the required 5 yards of fabric’s weight, – half of that going to the sleeves -  I am fairly uncompromised in declaring it will remain the only one of its kind.

  5. I dont get it, how are the sleeves connected to the cuffs?

  6. The sleeves, just like the shirt itself, are based around a hidden lining. It is this inner sleeve that connects the shoulder to the writscuffs, while also keeping the, much longer, outer sleeves in place.

This concept art shows how the outer sleeve rolls back when the the arm is lifted, exposing the cuffs.
